Sustainability, Design and Planning– An Award-Winning Transformation
Once a dark, inefficient dwelling lacking in character, it is now an award-winning architectural landmark, recognised as “Best Small Practice Architect – Hampshire, UK.”
From Outdated to Outstanding
Under the direction of Gary White, of Winchester Design & Build, the property was re-engineered with a steel portal-framed glazed entrance, new dormers, and a completely open-plan interior. The redesign brought natural light, space, and symmetry to the home while preserving its country identity.
Powering the Future
A 400 % efficient Ground Source Heat Pump, this means 1 kw in 4kw’s out, underfloor heating, Herschel infrared panels, a smart water tank, and a new 4KW solar PV array on the stable block combine to make the property largely self-sufficient via a smart inverter. These renewable technologies reduce energy use by more than 70 %, setting a regional benchmark for sustainability. Because of the acreage of the site the owners are permitted to extract 1000 litres per day from the bore hole. A pretty good saving on the new wastewater levy!
Interiors that Inspire
The bespoke Magnet kitchen and expansive living spaces celebrate craftsmanship and clarity, while the brick fireplace, heritage-green bedrooms, and conservatory reflect subtle rural luxury.
